Sony Celebrates Seven Nominations for Outstanding Cinematography at the 77th Emmy Awards

The nominations for the 77th Emmy Awards have been revealed, showcasing this year’s incredible talents that have brought some of the best shows to life. A total of nine shows that were shot on the Sony VENICE and VENICE 2 camera systems were nominated for a total of 44 nominations across multiple categories.
But it is in the Outstanding Cinematography categories that we see the creative power of the Sony Cinema Line, a set of cameras that allows for truly outstanding visual expression.

Outstanding Cinematography for a Series (One Hour)
Of the six nominations for Outstanding Cinematography for a One-Hour Series, five of the projects nominated were captured with the Sony VENICE and Sony VENICE 2.
Andor - Season 2, Episode 3 - Sony VENICE
Belgian-based Director of Photography Christophe Nuyens, SBC, has been nominated for his work on episode 3, titled Harvest. Using the Sony VENICE, Nuyens juggled difficult lighting conditions, otherworldly sets, and dizzying choreography to bring the world of Andor to life.

The Day of The Jackal - Season 1, Episode 1 - Sony VENICE 2
Director of Photography Christopher Ross, BSC, lensed the first three episodes of The Day of The Jackal, setting the look for the British spy thriller, and was nominated for outstanding cinematography for his work on Episode 1 of the series.
Pachinko - Season 2, Episode 1 - Sony VENICE
For Season 2 of the Apple TV+ series, Director of Photography Ante Cheng was nominated for Episode 1, titled Chapter 9. Once again utilizing the Sony VENICE, Ante also lensed Episode 2 and Episodes 7, 8, and 9.
Severance - Season 2, Episode 2 - Sony VENICE 2
Director of Photography Jessica Lee Gagné has been nominated for Episode 1 of Season 2, titled Hello, Ms. Cobel. After capturing all nine episodes of Season 1, Gagné returns to lens six episodes of Season 2.
The White Lotus - Season 3, Episode 7 - Sony VENICE
Ben Kutchins, ASC, Director of Photography for Season 1 of The White Lotus, returned to capture the entirety of Season 3 and is nominated for his work on Episode 7, titled Killer Instincts.

Outstanding Cinematography for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie
Following the incredible showcase in the One Hour Series category, two of the five nominations for Outstanding Cinematography for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie were also shot on the Sony VENICE 2.
American Primeval - Episode 1 - Sony VENICE 2
Director of Photography Jacques Jouffret, ASC, captured the entire six-episode run of the Peter Berg-directed American Western limited series and has been nominated for his work on the pilot episode.
Zero Day - Episode 2 - Sony VENICE
For his work on Episode 2 of the Netflix series, Director of Photography John Conroy, ISC, has been nominated for Outstanding Cinematography. Conroy would also lens the entire run of the six-episode series.

Outstanding Variety Special (Live)
In the world of nonfiction, two incredible shows were shot on Sony Cinema Line cameras. These live performances required dozens of cameras to capture once in a lifetime moments.
The Apple Music Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show Starring Kendrick Lamar
The creative team behind the past five Super Bowl Halftime shows has once again been nominated for their incredible work to bring this annual performance to the masses beyond the stadium. Using a total of 14 cameras, including the Sony VENICE 2, the production and creative team have garnered a total of three nominations.
Director Hamish Hamilton is nominated for Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special, while the producing team was nominated for Outstanding Variety Special (Live). Kendrick Lamar and music director Tony Russell were nominated for Outstanding Music Direction, and choreographer Charm La’Donna was nominated for Outstanding Choreography for Variety or Reality Programming.
Beyoncé Bowl
In addition to the Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show, the Beyoncé Bowl was also nominated for several awards. This halftime show for the NFL Christmas Gameday was shot in Houston, Texas, on the Sony VENICE 2.
The producing team has been nominated for Outstanding Variety Special (Live), while directors Alex Rudzinski and Beyoncé Knowles-Carter were nominated for Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special. This show also received two additional awards for Outstanding Choreography and Outstanding Production Design.

Celebrating the Creative Power of the Sony Cinema Line
In addition to these well-deserved nominations for Outstanding Cinematography, Andor received an additional 13 nominations, including Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series and Outstanding Drama Series.
Pachinko was also nominated for Outstanding Production Design. While, American Primeval received a second nomination for Outstanding Period Costumes, and Zero Day has been nominated for an additional two awards — Outstanding Sound Mixing and Outstanding Directing for a Limited or Anthology Series.
Finally, The White Lotus received an incredible 22 additional nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series.
