Sony Unites Filmmakers With the Natural World at the 2025 Jackson Wild Summit
By: SonyCine Team
Jackson Wild is a non-profit organization that started life as the Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival. Based in Wyoming, the organization has been a staunch supporter of natural history filmmaking since its founding in 1991 and, in its current iteration, hosts an annual international conference, the Jackson Wild Summit, to support creators, photographers, expedition filmmakers, and documentarians.
For the 2025 Jackson Wild Summit, Sony joined the non-profit organization to collaborate on hosting an excursion and workshop, and to sponsor the Grand Teton Awards Gala where we presented the Feature Media Award.
The Sunrise Camera Excursion With Sony
Up bright and early, Summit filmmakers and photographers joined cinematography experts to explore the wonderfully calm moments before, during, and after a sunrise with the Sony BURANO and FX2.
Held at Grand Teton National Park, this excursion took shooters into the field where they were met with autumnal Wyoming landscapes and wildlife.
From FX to VENICE With Renan Ozturk & Ryan Wilkes
The Cinematic Storytelling in The Wild workshop brought together acclaimed expedition cinematographer Renan Ozturk and award-winning filmmaker Ryan Wilkes for an intimate talk on cinematic storytelling in the natural world.
Ozturk and Wilkes explored how the Sony FX2, FX3, and FX6 can empower filmmakers and documentarians in the field, allowing them to craft highly impactful moments, such as epic time-lapse shots and filming award-winning hummingbird sequences.
The Grand Teton Awards Gala
To wrap up the five-day summit, the Grand Teton Awards Gala honored award-winning films and filmmakers selected by an esteemed four-person jury, including Courtney Sexton, Executive Vice President of Film and Television for Jigsaw Productions, writer and filmmaker Doel Trivedy, Academy Award-winning director of My Octopus Teacher James Reed, and documentary director, cinematographer, and photographer Ryan Wilkes, PhD.
Sony presented the Feature Media Award to the Documentary Feature film, Yanuni, which follows Brazilian activist Juma Xipaia, a woman from the Brazilian Amazon, who represents the Indigenous leaders of her community and beyond on the political stage. Produced by Malaika Pictures and Appian Way, the film was directed by Richard Ladkani and was also awarded the Grand Teton Award.
